What happens is not as important as how you react to what happens.

I have achieved a grand accomplishment today…that of tearing up and disposing of the old, rotten carpet in my mom’s end of the house – a task that’s been long overdue since I moved in here. Underneath the hideous carpet up there, has always been a lovely hardwood floor. Why on earth my dad covered it up with that ugly carpet I’ll never understand (it was ugly even when it was new). I absolutely LOVE wood floors. The last 2 houses I lived in had wood floors – the first time I had lived with wood floors in my life – and I swore after having them, I’d never again be able to live amicably with carpeted floors again. (Perhaps this was Kendall’s sentiment when he set my area rug on fire recently…)

That’s but one of DOZENS of cosmetic tasks desperately needing doing in this old house, but it is such a big one to get out of the way, I’m so ELATED that it is done! I still need to pull a few staples up and pull up the stripping around the edges of the walls, but the hardest part is DONE! YIPPEE!!! The rest can wait for another equally ambitious day! I’ve fulfilled my obligation to the homestead today – I plan to be a total BUM tomorrow. Well, I do have to work up an updated budget, do laundry, clean my end of the house and something else that has completely slipped my mind at this present moment – BUT, other than that, I’m going to be a BUM.
