What happens is not as important as how you react to what happens.
A mid-week country stroll
After dropping off Hagrid last Saturday, at his new harem, Wilma wanted to unhitch the trailer before driving us home. I opted instead, for us to walk home, amidst much whining from Kendall and his mom – BOTH of whom are far younger than me. It was a gorgeous day and I wanted to enjoy it, and in spite of all their whining (the walk home from Wilma’s place was less than 2 miles!), I think the kids actually ended up enjoying it as much as I did. So, in the midst of the mundane work day week, I thought you guys might also enjoy a stroll through our lovely little rural neighborhood.
Before leaving Wilma’s place, I got a shot of her new turkey. He has a girlfriend and 2 children. He’s a gorgeous bird, but I’ve always thought the way those male turkeys hold their heads is the most peculiar thing!

As we started up the road, I thought this was a sweet shot of Kendall and his mom…a heart-warming sight that at about this same time last year, I thought I’d never see. It's a good feeling.
Around the corner from Wilma’s farm is another farm with a few cows, 3 adorable donkeys and a LOT of dogs. The donkeys came out to check out all the commotion. Or did they come out to pose for a family portrait?
On down the road, is yet another farm. The lady here raises ponies and goats. The ponies were out but I didn't see a single goat. They were probably having a community meeting on the subject of the neighborhood's most available bachelor goat moving to a harem a ways up the road.
As we turned the corner onto another road, more pastoral views of the surrounding farmland. Barns and shed abound around here...both old and abandoned...
...and new.
I thought this tree on the side of the road made a rather striking subject against the clear blue sky.
In the cattle pasture to our left, I noticed an oddity. You've heard of the black sheep? Well here was a white sheep in the midst of a field of black cattle. It was the only one of its kind that I saw. Must be a new pet of Jack and Wilma's?
Another abandoned barn.
As we made our final turn towards home onto our road, I caught a shot of our neighbor's gourd birdhouses for Martins. (I said Martins, not Martians.) These houses have hung here in this yard for as long as I've lived here...well over 30 years. If I had a way to hang them, I'd have some on my place too.
In the same yard, we were attacked by a ferocious watch dog...one of the many perils of a stroll in the country. We were deeply traumatized by the unexpected attack of this beast, but we survived.
Just up the road from our place, is another pasture with a horse...of course. I think every farm around here has at least one or 2 panels of chain link fencing leaned up against a pasture fence. On a farm, one never knows when a panel of chain link fencing might be sorely needed for some unexpected emergency...or a new addition to the farm.
Not every farm however, is fortunate enough to have some nostalgic farming equipment on display.
When we got home, Elliot was aroused from his nap. Laying around the yard all day can be quite exhausting.
And perhaps now, after this long walk, you too are ready to turn in for the night. Here's wishing you all sweet dreams of the disappearing country side of rural America. I'm SOOOO grateful to live in such a place as this. And SOOOO grateful to have good friends like you guys to share it with.
