What happens is not as important as how you react to what happens.
300
So I watched 300 this weekend. Not partial to bloody stuff, I opted to wait until it came on cable for free. Assuming it was mostly a blood and guts battle sort of thing, I did not expect to care for it much...another reason I didn't want to actually PAY to view it. And so I had wondered why all the hoopla about it with award ceremonies and such. After viewing it, it was clear.
The movie, while the subject matter may not have been the most appealing to my personal tastes, was quite artistically created actually. The lighting and sets, the costume and characters were quite creative. It was not your ordinary everyday bloody battle movie.
Then there were the many scantily clad male specimens of extraordinary male form...hmmmm, I digress.
As it turns out, I was inspired to learn more of the history of the event, which led me to be inspired to learn more of ancient Greek culture, Persian culture, oracles and such. All quite interesting really. Ancient history has always held a bit of a fascination for me. The arrogance and brutality of man can be rather astounding. But again, I digress.
Many aspects of the film were not actually historically accurate, but then I assume that historical accuracy was not really the object of this film. I think it succeeded rather admireably at achieving its objectives, and even inspired me and my 13 year old grandson to learn more about the actualy history that inspired the story that led to the making of the movie.
